Foot conditions are sometimes ignored by those who experience them, as some think they will go away or are not as serious as discomfort in other parts of the body. However, chronic pain in the foot can lead to hindered mobility, injury and a host of lower extremity problems.

Texas podiatrist David Jenson reports that there are as many remedies for foot pain as there are sources.

"Your foot is a complex structure of bones, ligaments, joints and muscles. There are over 26 bones and dozens of ligaments in the foot. If these parts fail to work together properly, pain develops," Jenson said.

He said that performing stretches and wearing supportive, well-fitted shoes may help alleviate some problems. Additionally, some people only need to lose weight and get exercising in order to take pressure off the feet and strengthen tendons and muscles.

Bunion splints or orthotics may be effective, non-invasive ways individuals can treat their bunions or hammer toe without having to resort to bunion surgery.
